Oscar Wilde (1854-1900)

Famous Irish writer who had very controversial life famous for plays like "A women of No Importance". As a poet he introduced new style for poetry. Ravenna, The Sphinx, The Ballad of Reading Gaol .... These poems attracted all kind of readers and surely worth reading.

Dostoevsky

Dostoevsky, son of Russia, treated as great novelist for his master piece "Crime and Punishment". Many people place his position equal to his contemporary writer Leo Tolstoy. Directors like Aki Kaurosmaki inspired and created a lot of films based on Crime and Punishment. The story is all about a murder and one of the best detective fiction ever written.

Tolstoy

Novels like Anna Karenina and War and Piece considered as the greatest classic novels ever written. His works are closely connected with the life of common man of Russia.
"Every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way"- From Anna Karenina. 'To tell the truth' was the motive of his life and that's why he had been converted himself as a reformer or prophet later period of his life.

Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961)

Hemingway's master piece "The Old Man and the Sea" won both Pulitzer Prize and Nobel Prize for literature. This American novelist concentrated more on short stories and had an independent style of writing.

Charles Dickens ( 1812-1870)

Great classic works on social evils....that's the basic feature of Dicken's novels. His colorful characters achieved popularity across the boundary. Among numerous classic novels David Copperfield and Tale of two cities widely accepted. The characters like Oliver Twist conquer readers and stand in literary world with all its glory.

William Shakespeare (1564-1616)

The greatest of the greatest nick named Bard of Avon. His name arise when countdown on comedies and tragedies of all-time favorite classic English literature.

The great dramas created by flow of words like rhythmical poetry.......Just read this please.." I have bough Golden opinions from all sorts of people"-From Macbeth.

I suggest non English men to study all 37 plays of Shakespeare to master the language and improve the vocabulary.

please don't expect online books here. This blog simply focusing classic and variety books one must read during his life time. Glances on ancient and modern classic on global basis... A literature become classic when it influence heart of readers unconsciously by immense power of love. Fortunately most of the 'best seller books of the world' include the list of classic.

Many of banned books round the corner worth reading. How many of us know that "Lady Chatterley's Lover", a classic work of D.H. Lawrence was banned as soon as published in 1928? If I asked to quote classic writers the list may include William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens, Oscar Wilde,Earnest Hemingway, AlexeTolstoy,Dostoevsky,William Blake, Victor Hugo,Leo Tolstoy, Jules Verne,Plato,Vaikkom Muhammad Basheer, John Milton......more and more..........Really I am in big confusion....

Selective reading required since it is impossible even a glance over all classic during once life time. How many hands you can see if asked to raise hand who read a good books in ten or twelve months? The major issue one may face is the selection among short stories, non-fiction articles, poems, plays,etc.
